Privacy and Confidentiality

Winding Creek Counseling Services

Your Privacy Matters—Confidential, Trusted Care You Can Rely On

At Winding Creek Counseling Services, your privacy is a top priority. What you share during counseling sessions is protected by law, meaning your personal information and conversations remain strictly confidential between you and your therapist. These protections apply to both adults and individuals under the age of 18, ensuring that clients of all ages can feel safe, respected, and secure when discussing sensitive topics. Our goal is to provide a trusted environment where you can speak openly and honestly as part of your healing process.

Exceptions to the Dr. or Patient Confidentiality

While confidentiality is fundamental to our care, there are specific situations where the law requires us to take action to protect your safety or the safety of others. In these circumstances, we are legally obligated to notify appropriate authorities or take necessary steps to ensure everyone’s wellbeing. These guidelines are in place to balance your privacy with the responsibility to protect and support our community.

The exceptions to the HIPAA privacy policy are as follows:

  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself, we will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, further measures must be taken without their permission that are provided to us by law in order to ensure their safety
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, we must notify the police and inform the intended victim
  • Suspected abuse - child, dependent adult or elder - we are required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately
